Episode 252: The Devil's Blaze

“You can go to blazes!” [3STU]

The Devil's Blaze: Sherlock Holmes 1943 is the follow-up novel to Robert J. Harris' highly-acclaimed first novel, A Study in Crimson: Sherlock Holmes 1942.

Fans of the Basil Rathbone / Nigel Bruce films will recognize the setting, as Holmes and Watson are in wartime London and prominent figures in science and the military are bursting into flame and being incinerated.

Author Bob Harris joins us in this episode to talk about his inspiration for this very different approach to writing continued adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

If you try your hand at the Canonical Couplet (we give you two lines of poetry, you identify the Sherlock Holmes story), your correct answer could be randomly chosen to win a copy of Bob's book.

Send your answer to comment @ ihearofsherlock .com by November 29, 2022 at 11:59 a.m. EST. The winner will be chosen at random from among all the correct answers. All listeners are eligible to play.

For our supporters, a very special challenge is still open for you, where you'll have a chance to win six Sherlock Holmes books: The Sherlock Holmes Little Book of Wisdom, Mastermind: How to Think Like Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street, In and Out of Character, and Conan Doyle. See what awaits on Substack.
